Coupling

Couplings can be basically categorized as one of two types, the rigid coupling and the flexible coupling. Rigid couplings are usually used to connect equipment that experiences very small misalignments, since most applications require the use of flexible couplings. :Flexible couplings are categorized as one of four types1. Mechanically Flexible2. Elastomeric3. Metallic Membrane4. Miscellaneous For the applications being compared, a mechanically flexible gear coupling or a metallic membrane coupling are most often considered because of torque, misalignment speed, and environmental requirements. The gear coupling is a type of mechanically flexible coupling and the diaphragm is a type of metallic membrane coupling.
